Distance Learning with The Elephant Sanctuary

Thanks to advances in technology and the recent digital upgrades to our Elecams, The Elephant Sanctuary is now improving upon our established teleconferencing programs to create an even more interactive, web-based, Distance Learning Program for school children and community groups of all ages. 

These are virtual “visits” for classrooms or groups anywhere in the world, where students have the opportunity to learn about our resident elephants living in the nation’s largest natural habitat for Asian and African elephants. Through our new network of fourteen digital, solar powered Elecams located throughout the habitats, students are now privy to the private lives of the elephants residing at the Sanctuary like never before. This non-intrusive observation allows viewers to experience natural elephant behavior in a wild setting, and enables them to become familiar with the elephant, their history, habits, and how moving to the Sanctuary has changed their lives. These elephants residing at the Sanctuary represent a new age of captive-elephant management; what they are teaching us is invaluable.

Conducted by Sanctuary staff, students have the opportunity to learn about our resident elephants living in the nation's largest natural habitat for Asian and African elephants.

The programs are usually 45 minutes in length, but this is certainly flexible. All that is needed to participated is a computer with web connectivity, a webcam, and a screen large enough for optimal viewing for your audience. The Sanctuary can host of up to six “connections” at a time, so six classrooms can all participate at once—everyone doesn’t have to be in the same room.

We are very excited to begin bringing the Sanctuary to classrooms and groups again.
