Born Free Logo

The Born Free Foundation headquartered in the United Kingdom continues to fund-raise for The Elephant Sanctuary from "across the pond." Tracy Patterson, Project Elefriends coordinator for The Born Free Foundation of Surrey, England, visited the Sanctuary in 1996. She was so impressed with the Sanctuary's philosophy and success that her organization instantly became a supporter.

The Born Free Foundation's Elefriends Program benefits different elephant-related projects, including vehicles used for anti-poaching in Tanzania.

This international support validates the Sanctuary's efforts in the most profound way. Funds continue to accumulate, and donors from the UK are contacting the Sanctuary for more information.

The Elephant Sanctuary sincerely appreciates this support from The Born Free Foundation.

Indian Jungles
Indian Jungles.Com is a website dedicated to Indian wildlife and wilderness. The primary aim of the site is:
  • to help spread awareness of the need for wildlife conservation in India;
  • to influence decision-makers in the Indian government on wildlife conservation;
  • to encourage and influence innovative debate, constructive discussion, and consensus-building;
  • to fight misinformation and destruction of India's wilderness and wildlife.

Sanctuary AsiaSanctuary Asia, India's leading wildlife, conservation and environment magazine, was started by editor Bittu Sahgal in 1981 to raise awareness among Indians of their disappearing natural heritage. The overwhelming response to the magazine led to the birth of Sanctuary Cub, a children's nature magazine, in 1984 and to The Ecologist Asia (Indian edition of The Ecologist, UK) a journal dedicated to the issues of the environment, development and human rights, in 1993.

The Elephant Nature Park in ThailandThe Elephant Nature Park in Thailand was founded in 1996. Its mission is to provide:
1. Sanctuary for endangered species: The Sanctuary provides homes for animals and contributes to their welfare and development. By liaising with like-minded Conservation and Environmentalist groups, NGO's (Non Government Organisations) and other interested parties the Sanctuary is able to keep abreast of the latest techniques in health care and resource management.

2. Rain Forest Restoration: One of the most exciting developments at the park is the programme of tree planting the surrounding area. The ecological balance of plants and animals will be encouraged by the re-introduction of the rain forest. Some 25 acres of the mountainside will be planted every year for the first 5 years.

3. Cultural Preservation: To maintain, as much as possible, the cultural integrity of the local community. By creating employment and purchasing agricultural products locally the sanctuary assists the villagers in sustaining their distinct culture. Park managers are recruited locally to oversee the park's progress.

4. Visitors Centre : To educate visitors, individuals, study groups, schools and interested parties. Emphasis on the plight of the endangered local species will be presented in an entertaining and constructive manner. Future phases will include audio / visual equipment and other modern educational aids. It is anticipated that small conferences and workshops will be organised at the park.

5. Act independently : of pressure groups and political movements that the Sanctuary considers contrary to the well being of the park and the creatures in its care.

TUSK the MusicalTUSK is the award-winning musical which was part of the 2005 New York Musical Theater Festival in Manhattan. TUSK premiered on stage in Albany, New York at The EGG Theater and on Broadway the following year in New York City. Currently, the musical is in negotiations with a Florida-based animation company that is interested in developing it into a feature film. In addition, Billing is currently in negotiations with three theaters to have TUSK on stage again in the early part of 2007.

TUSK focuses on the plight of elephants and the rain forest. When Steven Billing learned of the horrible abuse elephants endure by trainers while in the circus, he decided to write a musical to educate others. "It has taken on a life of its own," he claims. "Elephants belong in the wild -- not whipped, bull-hooked and shocked into doing tricks. I feel it’s my mission to get the word out through TUSK -- it finally is coming to life. TUSK tells the real story."

Part of the proceeds from TUSK will go to The Elephant Sanctuary in support of its work to provide a natural habitat refuge for old, sick, and needy elephants.
