HOHENWALD, Tenn. (AP) -- An Asian elephant who spent the last 40 years at the Philadelphia Zoo is starting her new life at a sanctuary in rural Middle Tennessee.

The elephant, a 43-year-old female named Dulary, arrived by trailer Tuesday at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, about 80 miles southwest of Nashville.

Dulary and three African elephants had to be moved from the zoo after the zoo board decided there was insufficient funds to expand the existing elephant habitat.

The other African elephants will be moved to a breeding facility in Pennsylvania.

Dulary will have plenty of room to spread out in the 2,200-acre habitat for its 15 Asian elephants.

The nonprofit sanctuary is designed specifically for old, sick or needy elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses.

It is also home to three African elephants.
