May Events at the Welcome Center Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. the Welcome Center gift shop will be open to greet visitors to the Hohenwald Farmers & Flea Market located directly behind the Welcome Center. (Note: We have changed the presentation time to 2:30 p.m. to facilitate Volunteer Day participation. The Elephant Sanctuary is pleased to announce the Welcome Center in downtown Hohenwald will present a multi-media presentation and informal discussion during the month of May entitled "Elephants through the Ages" on Saturday, May 19 at a new time - 2:30 PM. Visitors are invited to attend. The Welcome Center is located at 27 East Main in Hohenwald, TN 38462. The Welcome Center is located approximately four miles from the elephant habitat. Learn about elephant ancestry from 55 million years ago, their extinct relatives such as the Mastodon and Mammoth and their living relatives, such as the strange but cute hyrax of Africa and the gentle manatee of Florida. Explore the history of their working relationship with man in war and peace. Shirley is Featured During May
At 64, Shirley is a venerable elephant in the Sanctuary’s herd and is one of the oldest Asian elephants in captivity in the United States. The Welcome Center at 27 East Main Street, Hohenwald, TN 38462 is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and every third Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; other times are available by appointment during normal business hours.
