Many thanks to Susan and James Hammersley who provided funds to drill our second well. On July 13, at 11AM, under the watchful eyes of Tarra, Jenny, Shirley and Bunny, we struck water at thirty-two feet. The drilling crew was amazed at how plentiful water is on this piece of property.
At one point Jenny decided that she wanted to get a closer look at these noisy drilling trucks so she placed her foot on the post holding the hot wire and aptly pushed it to the ground. Without hesitation the drilling crew climbed into the cabs of their trucks as they had been instructed and watched as the elephants calmly explored the drilling equipment.
It took only a few minutes for the elephants curiosity to be satisfied. With a little coaxing from Scott they returned to their observation area. The crew was amazed at how gently the elephants explored the equipment and how cooperatively they returned to their designated area.
The well was drilled in record time and the elephants stood their vigil until the last drilling rig disappeared from the habitat.
Below are pictures of the drilling, under the close supervision of the pachyderms.
