Our Very Own Intern "Survivor" - 2002

John Carroll, AKA "Survivor John", interned at the Elephant Sanctuary in April 2002. When he first contacted us, he did not disclose his name, gender, or where he lived. All he would say is that he was one of the current members of the television show, "Survivor". He had recently watched the nature Series/National Geographic documentary, "The Urban Elephant" which featured the reunion of two of the Sanctuary's elephants. Because John was so touched by the program and desperately wanted to get involved, he was accepted as a Sanctuary intern.

This grueling experience of shoveling manure, pressure washing floors, chopping up pounds of carrots and apples could have broken a better person, but John survived! Not only did he survive his internship, he thrived and gained a greater appreciation for the plight of captive elephants.

John's infectious enthusiasm and Chatty Cathy motor-mouth kept everyone laughing. On a scale of one to ten, John gets a 10+ from the Sanctuary staff.

John is not a villain after all!
