Due to recent rains, the mud hole, fed by a natural spring, is the center of activity these days. Bunny, Shirley and Jenny slop mud on themselves, covering their entire body with clumps of gooey mud.
Jenny and Shirley enjoy a good roll in the mud, coating their sensitive skin. Good idea since the temperatures have soared into the high 70s. An elephant's skin is prone to sunburn and their bodies can become overheated if they do not have access to shade or other ways to control their body temperature. The mud serves as a sun block and insulator to keep the elephants cool.
