AEDC Woman’s Club hears about The Elephant Sanctuary

Members of the AEDC Woman’s Club enjoyed hearing about a special sanctuary for pachyderms during their recent meeting.

Guest speaker Rosanne Sietins, a volunteer with The Elephant Sanctuary located in Lewis County, talked about the organization’s mission and provided interesting facts about elephants.

The Elephant Sanctuary, founded in 1995 in Hohenwald, is a non-profit organization licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The elephants in The Sanctuary are retired from zoos and circuses and many suffer long-term health and behavioral issues common to elephants who have spent their lives in captivity.
