How do animals reach old age? Meet these senior creatures.
Humans have pretty long lifespans, and they have increased greatly over the last few centuries.
There are several reasons for humans living longer. Access to healthcare certainly plays a role, but so does the fact that we are no longer “wild animals.” Most of us do not have to worry about being taken out by a lion or a bear (although not 100% true, as it still happens on occasion). Humans are quite protected from natural dangers.
Some animals experience the same protection when humans take them in as pets or put them into sanctuaries or zoos. One could argue about the quality of life for animals in captivity; but those animals often live longer than those in the wild for the same reason — many natural dangers have been eliminated.
