Appalachian State Students Share Thoughts on Alternative Spring Break Experience

Students from Appalachian State University chose to spend their 2022 spring break vacation volunteering at The Sanctuary, through the university's Alternative Service Experience. These hard workers did everything from stacking wood for our on-site wood-burning furnaces to weaving elephant enrichment baskets from grapevines donated from local winery Amber Falls. They also cleaned up the landscaping at The Elephant Discovery Center in preparation for spring.

“Nothing brings us more joy than hearing from former volunteers how their lives have been influenced by their time with us.”  said Todd Montgomery, Senior Manager of External Relations at The Elephant Sanctuary, who lead the student group volunteer effort.
