As part of our 30th Anniversary year celebration, The Elephant Sanctuary is embarking on a major expansion of Redbud Barn (formerly known as the Africa Barn).
The Redbud Barn Expansion Project will increase the existing barn from 8,035 to 13,935 square feet, creating sustainable, accessible space for veterinary and husbandry care, plus new areas for the elephants to connect and socialize indoors.
Gifts to this project will fund:
- 5,000 square feet of additional indoor space built to bull-sized standards for year round socialization and care as elephants age
- Enhanced areas for continued Protected Contact (PC) management, positive reinforcement, and enrichment opportunities
- Environmentally responsible and energy efficient barn design features that reduce our long-term energy use
Your support can bring this project to life. Our initial fundraising goal is $250,000 to break ground this summer. Thanks to the generosity of longtime supporter, the Janet M. Johnston Foundation, this campaign is kicking off with a $100,000 matching gift! That means every donation—big or small—will go twice as far!
