Redbud Barn Expansion Breaks Ground

Thanks to you, our generous supporters, The Elephant Sanctuary raised its first $100,000 in donations toward the Redbud Barn Expansion Project, which was matched with an additional $100,000 from the Janet M. Johnston Foundation.

Your generosity is helping us expand the barn from 8,035 to 13,935 square feet, creating more sustainable, accessible space for veterinary and husbandry care and indoor areas where elephants can connect, socialize, and thrive year-round.

We’re excited to let you know that we broke ground this week! Any tree that has been removed for the project will be repurposed in the habitats for the elephants to dine on and debark. Thus far, the elephants at Redbud seem to enjoy the root balls most! Redbud Care Staff plan to distribute extra trees to all of the other barns as well for their elephants to interact with.

We are now less than $50,000 away from reaching our $250,000 goal, the final push to bring this project fully to life. Every gift supports the well-being of our elephants today and for decades to come.
