The Elephant Sanctuary Receives Outstanding Wildlife Sanctuary Award

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee has been named the recipient of the Outstanding Wildlife Sanctuary Award by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS)—a tremendous honor recognizing excellence in humane and responsible animal care, professionalism, ethics, organizational sustainability, and leadership within the sanctuary field.

As a GFAS-accredited Sanctuary, The Elephant Sanctuary is dedicated to meeting the highest standards of animal welfare and operational integrity, ensuring a lifetime home for elephants. Accreditation by GFAS signifies adherence to rigorous standards of care, governance, and transparency—providing assurance to supporters, partners, and the public that The Sanctuary operates with the utmost commitment to the well-being of the elephants and the environment.

This recognition is made possible thanks to the dedication of The Sanctuary’s Board, Staff, volunteers, and our supporters around the world, whose compassion and commitment continue to make a lasting difference for elephants everywhere. Congratulations as well to all of this year’s GFAS award recipients—an inspiring group of organizations making extraordinary contributions to the protection and care of animals.

Other recipients included Full Circle Farm Sanctuary, Georgia (Outstanding Equine Sanctuary), Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Centre, DRC Congo (Outstanding International Sanctuary), and The Flicka Foundation, U.K. (Outstanding Farmed Animal Sanctuary). We are honored to be recognized among these incredible organizations—selected from more than 200 GFAS-accredited sanctuaries worldwide.
