Facilities Elephant Support Technician, Seasonal
Facilities/Maintenance mission: Support the entire organization by providing effective Grounds, Shop, Maintenance, and Custodial services.
The Seasonal Facilities Support Technician helps the Facilities Maintenance team to provide support services across the organization. Support Technicians play an important support role by assisting with seasonal workloads and infrastructure maintenance projects.
Position Objectives
Work closely the Maintenance and Elephant Care teams supporting daily facility and operational care during peak periods for landscaping, maintenance projects, barns, habitats, and facility care period (November 2025-March 2026)
- Ensure safety practices and protocols are observed at all times to safely maintain and operate vehicles, tools and equipment
- Assist with elephant care needs as directed including browse procurement, barn and habitat cleaning, facility maintenance, diet preparation, vehicle and equipment maintenance
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely and efficiently provide daily support care in barns and habitats, as directed by supervisor.
- Assist in the procurement, preparation and delivery of browse and other forms of enrichment.
- Monitor, inspect and maintain elephant and safety infrastructure (e.g., barns, fence, gates, systems) and report breakage/failures in a timely manner to supervisor.
- Provide daily cleaning and upkeep of elephant facilities, including barns, service areas, habitats and other related infrastructure.
- Assist with projects such as mowing, weedeating, pressure washing, barn cleaning, painting, recycling, trash removal, compost management, as requested.
- Ensure work areas, access, parking and offices are cleaned and maintained daily in a safe, neat and orderly fashion.
- Assist in unloading and storage of feed and hay deliveries.
- Monitor and maintain feed and husbandry supplies
- Perform daily basic maintenance safety checks on vehicles and equipment; report as requested.
- Understand and participate with all assigned safety training protocols for the Sanctuary and department.
- Safely operate ATVs, vehicles and equipment on roads, trails and in habitats, per established protocols.
- Perform other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES:
- Volunteer, intern or paid experience working in maintenance, agriculture or forestry sector.
- Valid Driver’s License, insurable to drive company vehicles, and ability to provide own transportation to/from work.
- Must have equipment & tool operating experience including mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, and power tools. Heavy equipment operation a plus (skid steer loaders, farm tractors)
- Must have vehicle operating experience including 4 wheel drive trucks, ATVs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to stand/work for 8 hours in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly during loading/unloading supplies.
- Must be able to perform repetitive manual tasks, (cutting produce, pressure washing, raking).

Lifting or carrying 50 lbs repeatedly during loading/unloading supplies; pushing or pulling; reaching overhead; reaching at or below shoulder level: use of one or both feet or legs to move controls on machinery or equipment; driving; stooping; crouching; kneeling; climbing ladders, scaffolding; speaking; ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (ex. machinery alarms); visual acuity- approximately 20 inches or less, at 20 feet or more, peripheral.
