Current Opportunities
The Sanctuary’s 12-week Internship Program is focused on providing experiential learning opportunities to individuals seeking to understand, develop, and establish careers in the fields of elephant care and conservation. Interns work closely with Caregivers as well as Education Staff for a multi-departmental learning experience.

Associate Veterinarian, part-time
The Elephant Sanctuary Mission:
To provide a natural habitat refuge developed around the needs of Asian and African elephants where elephants are provided with lifetime care; To support and promote elephant welfare and conservation; To provide and support public education regarding the complex needs of elephants and the challenges facing elephants in the wild.
Position Purpose:
The Elephant Sanctuary is looking to grow our team. We are searching for an individual who is looking for a unique part time opportunity working with elephants and wanting to practice high quality medicine. This individual would work an average of eight hours per week, be on call when the Associate Director of Elephant Health and Wellness is on PTO or traveling for work and share weekend and holiday on call coverage. There is some flexibility to the schedule that can be discussed. The Associate Veterinarian is responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of veterinary care are maintained at The Sanctuary, with a focus on preventative care. Ensure efficient communication within the veterinary department. Help manage and maintain thorough and accurate veterinary medical records entries. Participate in vet rounds and prescribe veterinary treatments, and document and record pertinent information. Play a vital role in emergency response and end of life care, including euthanasia and necropsy

Elephant Caregiver
Providing home, herd, and whole life care for elephants
The intent of the Elephant Care Program is to provide exceptional whole life care for The Sanctuary’s resident elephants. We strive to expand and improve opportunities for elephants to thrive and to support elephants as they age relevant to Sanctuary resources and infrastructure.
The Elephant Caregiver is a member of the elephant husbandry team providing quality daily care, social and herd opportunity, nutrition, and treatments using Protected Contact and Positive Reinforcement for aging African and Asian elephants housed at The Sanctuary. Caregivers play an important role in maintaining the elephant barns and habitats to provide safe and secure housing.

Outreach Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Outreach Coordinator (OC) will be working alongside The Elephant Sanctuary’s Education team with the primary responsibility for coordination and implementation of The Sanctuary’s successful volunteer programs as well as coordinating and managing outreach events in the Middle TN community and beyond. Outreach Coordinator is tasked with managing, coordinating, and expanding existing programs (EleAmbassadors and On-Site Volunteer Program), working with Development and Communications teams expanding our existing Group Volunteer program and developing and delivering additional outreach programs as well as collecting data evaluating the program for improvement.
In addition to volunteer program responsibilities, the OC will work in collaboration with the Education Team supporting day-to-day operation for The Elephant Discovery Center. Responsibilities include greeting and informing visitors, as well as planning and delivering Sanctuary education programming through a variety of outlets to the widest possible audience.
