Wish list (updated 8/8/03)

Moving an elephant requires a custom designed trailer as well as qualified drivers and caregivers to ensure a safe trip. In conventional transport containers the elephant is chained by two legs to the floor of the trailer, for the entire duration of the trip.

The Elephant Sanctuary has a unique trailer designed to transport its elephant passengers chain-free. Instead of chains, the Sanctuary ‘s trailer is designed with a cage style structure which allows the elephant to travel chain-free and assume normal posturing during transit.

It is standard practice for the Sanctuary to hire a semi tractor and professional driver to transport our precious cargo to the Sanctuary. A member of the Sanctuary staff will accompany Tina and is responsible for her care and safety for the duration of the trip.

In order to insure that Tina’s trip schedule meets her needs, the Sanctuary is hiring a driving team. These two drivers will share driving responsibilities. Instead of Tina having to adhere to their drive time requirements, having two drivers makes the schedule flexible so that the trip schedule will be dictated by Tina. Hiring two drivers significantly increases the cost of the move but we believe that money should never be a factor when it comes to the welfare of any animal.

Below is a list of expenses the Sanctuary will incur by transporting Tina from The Greater Vancouver Zoo to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Please let us know if you can be of assistance.

You can help underwrite the cost of any of the items below by making a contribution on line. The server is secure, and your gift will be very much appreciated. Take a look at the list and see where you would like to help ... then CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE ONLINE FORM.
