October 2020 is Elephant Awareness Month in TN

In recognition of the milestone achieved by The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, caring for retired captive elephants since 1995, the state of Tennessee, Lewis County, and the city of Hohenwald declared October 2020 “Elephant Awareness Month.”

Governor Bill Lee, Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner, and Hohenwald Mayor Danny McKnight have signed official proclamations stating, “In 2020, The Sanctuary is celebrating 25 years of providing a safe haven and natural habitat refuge dedicated to the wellbeing of retired captive elephants and educating the public about the needs of elephants in captivity and the crisis facing elephants in the wild.”
