African elephants Artie and Osh continue to choose opportunities to spend time together throughout Buckeye and Woodland habitats. In recent weeks, Caregivers have observed the pair sharing space more frequently, often grazing side by side as they explore Woodland’s expansive meadows and open areas.
Although the two are spending more time together, each continues to have his own preferred way to explore. Osh is often found in Woodland’s open fields, where he spends time grazing on the abundant grasses and seasonal wildflowers. Artie, meanwhile, embraces his adventurous side, frequently venturing deep into Woodland to explore winding forest trails and some of the farthest reaches of the habitat.
During routine care sessions, Osh continues to patiently participate in voluntary tusk imaging training, helping the Veterinary and Elephant Care Teams monitor his health through positive reinforcement. Artie has developed a bit of a reputation for another reason—he has become especially fond of drinking directly from the garden hose whenever the opportunity arises, much to the delight of his Caregivers.
Whether exploring together or following their own paths, Artie and Osh continue to make the most of the opportunities for choice, exploration, and companionship throughout their habitats.
