With warmer weather settling in, Sycamore Barn marked a familiar seasonal shift as Billie stepped into Pond Yard's picturesque pond, kicking off what Care Staff often refer to as the start of “pool season.” At 64 years old, Billie showed little hesitation, entering the water even as rain and distant thunder moved through the area.
Debbie was also observed on the EleCam engaging with the pond during a recent rainfall, while Ronnie continued to graze steadily nearby. These moments offer a glimpse into how each elephant responds to seasonal changes, choosing how and when to engage with their environment.
Care Staff continue to support Debbie through her foot care sessions, adjusting training approaches to better meet her individual needs. Foot care is an essential part of elephant health, particularly in a sanctuary setting where each elephant’s history, mobility, and comfort are carefully considered. Regular footwork allows Care Staff to monitor for changes, maintain foot health, and support overall well-being. A recently implemented training approach in Debbie's foot care is already showing encouraging progress, underscoring the importance of individualized care.
